Built for British Columbia

Peachland metal roofing: a roof that cannot rust.

BC is a coastline, a rainforest, a snow belt and a fire zone, sometimes on the same drive. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each.

Salt air

Aluminum cannot rust

There is no iron in aluminum, so there is nothing to rust. It forms its own thin oxide layer, which re-forms if the surface is scratched. That is why it is the metal for oceanfront homes, island cabins and anywhere the wind carries salt.

Wildfire

Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly

Under ASTM E108 a fire classification belongs to an assembly, not a panel. On our roofs Class A is achieved with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood, and the aluminum itself does not ignite. Ask us to quote the assembly if your home backs onto forest or grassland.

Reflectance

Reflectance, rated colour by colour

Most Alunar® colours are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), which publishes each colour's solar reflectance (0.25 to 0.44 when new) and thermal emittance (0.83 to 0.86). Lighter and metallic colours reflect more. The Alunar® finish is warranted for 30 years.

Energy

Colour and summer heat

Lighter colours absorb less summer sun than dark ones. What that saves depends on climate, colour, insulation and attic ventilation, so we don't quote a figure.

Solar

The roof to put solar on

A solar array lasts 25 to 30 years. Put it on an asphalt roof and the panels often have to come off and go back on when the roof wears out underneath them. On an Interlock roof they come off at the end of their own life, not the roof's. Standing Seam takes clamp mounts with no holes drilled; the other profiles use mounting hardware made for metal roofing. At roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre the roof leaves more of the structure's capacity for the array, and your solar installer confirms the framing.

Wind

Locked on four sides

Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides, with no exposed fastener for a storm to work at. Wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Coastline: Province of British Columbia, Coastal Marine Strategy ↗ gives "more than 26,000 kilometres"; federal mapping gives 25,725 km. Product figures are the manufacturer's: interlockroofing.com ↗

    Why aluminum roofing, for Peachland

Pine forest, embers and winter on the hill, and what an aluminum roof changes.

    Interface

A town backed by pine forest

Peachland's 2021 Community Wildfire Protection Plan describes a wildland-urban interface dominated by timber, mostly ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir. It names the 2017 Finlay Creek fire and the 2018 Mount Eneas and Munro fires among recent fires affecting residents. An Interlock® roof offers Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly, and aluminum will not catch fire.

    Embers

What a roof alone can't stop

No roof is fireproof. FireSmart BC tells homeowners to clear gutters regularly, because embers easily ignite dry material, and to screen vents with three-millimetre non-combustible wire mesh. When we measure a Peachland roof, we point out the gutters, vents and corners where needles and embers can gather.

    Snow

    Winter on the upper streets

Homes up Princeton Avenue and Trepanier Bench Road sit well above the waterfront. Snow slides off aluminum, so the estimate includes snow guards wherever a slide would land on a door, a deck or a car. Ice damming depends on the attic and eaves, so we look at those too.

    Since 1899

    An older lakeside town

John Moore Robinson founded Peachland in 1899, on the site of a small community called Camp Hewett. For a house that should keep a traditional look, Interlock® Shake and Interlock® Cedar Shingle give it in heavy-gauge aluminum, at roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per m². Each roof carries the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty.

    Recycled

    Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

    Straight answers

    Peachland roofing questions, short answers.

    All of our answers ↗

    Which communities does peachlandroofing.com cover?

The District of Peachland, from the lakeshore up to Trepanier Bench Road and the upper Princeton Avenue area. Homes elsewhere in the Okanagan, and in the Shuswap, are covered at okanaganroofing.com.

Can I get metal shingles or aluminum shingles in Peachland?

Yes. All four Interlock® shingle profiles are aluminum: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile. We also install Interlock® Standing Seam and solid copper. The roof needs a slope of at least 3/12.

Has wildfire come close to Peachland?

Yes. The District's 2021 Community Wildfire Protection Plan notes that the 2009 Glenrosa fire burned right up to the treatment plant, and that a state of local emergency was declared for a 2018 wildfire. An aluminum roof does not ignite, but no roof is fireproof, so gutters and vents still need attention.

Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Peachland?

The District of Peachland's Building Permit FAQs list "Major roofing projects" among work that needs a permit, and "Minor roof repairs like re-shingling" among work that doesn't, adding that "anything structural needs a building permit." A full replacement can fall on either side of that line, so we confirm with the District for your address.

How much does a metal roof cost in Peachland?

Our metal roof cost page gives price ranges by profile, taken from our BC contracts. Structure and other conditions change the price from one roof to the next, so use those ranges as a rough guide only. For an accurate figure we need a roof consultation, on Zoom or at your house.

What does "Peachland's Best Roof®" mean?

Best Roof® is a registered trademark of I.E.L. Manufacturing Ltd. "Peachland's Best Roof®" is simply the brand name for the Interlock® aluminum roof we install here. It describes the product, not a ranking.
